Un verbo muy irregular, muy útil y muy común:
Be - ser, estar

I am - I am not/I'm not

- Am I?

You are - You are not/You aren't

- Are you?

He is - He is not/He isn't

- Is he?

She is - She is not/She isn't

- Is she?

It is - It is not/It isn't

- Is it?

We are - We are not/We aren't

- Are we?

They are - They are not/They aren't

- Are they?

El uso de los "contracciones" son opcionales .
En la calle, es probable que la gente dice mas,
por ejemplo: I'm en lugar de I am
pero no importa cual utilizes. En clase, practicamos ambas
versiones y tu decides cual prefieres usar
(es decir, cual, para ti, es lo más fácil pronunciar!)

Con este verbo se puede decir cosas que son la verdad sobre nosotros:

I am Jane.

I'm quite old! I'm not 21!
I'm quite shy.
I'm not very good at sport.

I'm an English teacher.

I'm British, I'm not French.

I'm from London, I'm not from Spain.

Podemos decir cosas que son la verdad en en este momento:

I'm cold.

I'm hungry.
I'm tired.
I'm in the kitchen.
I'm not thirsty.
I'm not in the library,
I'm at work.
The vegetables are ready,
but the sausages aren't ready.

sausages: salchichas.
ready: listo/preparado

Podemos decir cosas sobre nuestro pueblo:

Sariñena is in Aragón, it's not in Valencia.
It is quite a big town.
It isn't a city. It isn't in France.
Sariñena is near The Pyrenees. It's not near Madrid.
It's in Spain. Spain's in the European Union.

Sobre el tiempo - The Weather:

It's hot today. It isn't cloudy.
It is a lovely day today!
It isn't raining. It isn't snowing. It's sunny.
In Winter, it's usually quite cold in Sariñena.
It's often windy in Sariñena.
The weather is usually very good in summer.

y sobre nuestra familia, amigos y pertenencias:

My family is big.
My Mum is a housewife.
My Dad is a farmer, he isn't a bus driver.
My sister is a student
My brother is rather lazy.
We are hungry. We aren't thirsty.
We're ready to go!
My dog is greedy. He is also quite fat!
We aren't in the bookshop, we're in the cinema.
We're cold. It's a cold day today!
My car is red and fast, it isn't blue or slow.
My sister's car* is blue, it isn't red.

My sister's car - el coche de mi hermana.

En otra clase hablamos del uso del 'S.

En la versión negativa del verbo Be
hay dos maneras de hacer la contracción:
Ambos significa lo mismo:

You are not = You aren't or You're not
He is not = He isn't or He's not.
She is not = She isn't or She's not.
It is not = It isn't or It's not.
We are not = We arent't or We're not.
They are not = They aren't or They're not.
